Cambridge, MA --- Aidan Callahan (Rowley, MA) tallied all of his 13 points in the first half and the top scoring defense in Division III held an opponent to fewer than 50 points for the seventh time this season as WPI went on the road and defeated NEWMAC rival MIT 88-40 on Saturday afternoon.

Following a similar playbook to its NEWMAC-opening triumph over Springfield on Wednesday, WPI broke open a close game in the middle of the first half with a deceive run.  MIT never led, but trailed by just a single point at 14-13 after Micah Boone (Pike Road, AL) connected on a 3-pointer with 13:21 to go before intermission, but the hosts would only muster three free throws the rest of the half as the Crimson and Gray closed the first stanza on a 31-3 spurt to take a 45-16 advantage into the locker room at the break. 

WPI, which entered the game allowing just 54.1 points per game, a tenth of a point better than No. 1 Saint Joseph, and best among the 413 Division III programs nationwide limited Cambridge's Engineers to just 22.2% shooting from the floor in the first half while hitting at a 52.2% clip themselves. 

Callahan drained all five of his shot attempts on the day en route to his 13 points and remarkably WPI was extremely balanced with 12 other Engineers scoring between 4 and 9 points on the day.  Brett Marelli (Hampton, NH) continued his fine play off the bench with nine points and four rebounds, John Adams (Douglas, MA) registered eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds, Andrew Lufkin (Auburn, NH) swiped a career-best four steals and Reese Swedberg (Moultonborough, NH) reached new season-highs with six points and five boards. 

WPI held a dominating 45-24 edge in rebounding on the day and, in a statistical oddity, nearly made more field goals (38) than MIT attempted.   Worcester's Engineers held an eye-popping 32-3 edge in points off turnovers and a 52-12 advantage in points in the paint.  

Boone finished with 11 points to go along with four rebounds for MIT and Tim Minicozzi (Belmont, MA) chipped in with 10 points.   

WPI wraps up a two-game NEWMAC road trip on Wednesday, heading to Babson for a 7pm tipoff.  MIT is also on the road Wednesday at 7pm, venturing to Coast Guard for a 7pm affair.
