How it Happened
The two teams battled at the start of the game, as neither team allowed the other to gain more than a one-possession lead throughout the first eight minutes. An Elmira triple with 11:19 remaining in the first half would bring the lead to four points for the Soaring Eagles, the largest lead of the game at that point. An answer from deep off the hands of Justin DiFabio brought the Gryphons within one and the two teams would remain in a one-possession game for the following five minutes until a fastbreak layup gave Elmira a six-point lead. With just under two minutes remaining, seven straight points by Egan would give the Gryphons an advantage and a layup by Lucas Murray with eight seconds remaining would secure a Sarah Lawrence lead at the half.
Torres began to take control of the game early in the second half with two made three-pointers to bring the Sarah Lawrence lead to seven points with under 16 minutes to play, a lead they would not surrender for the remainder of the game. Despite an Elmira run to lower the margin to four points with just over 11 minutes remaining, the Gryphons' shooting would keep them ahead as DiFabio hit triples on back-to-back possessions to halt any momentum going the way of the Soaring Eagles. As the clock hit zero the Gryphons found themselves ahead by 14 points and with a victory to carry over into the winter break.
