Salisbury rolls to third straight win with 83-69 over Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team extended its win streak to three after an exciting 83-69 victory over the Lynchburg Hornets on Wednesday to conclude a seven-game road trip.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Salisbury jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after Greg Bloodsworth buried a three-pointer just under two minutes into the game.
  • Both teams knocked down shots on the next few possessions, but two free throws from Brandon Craig gave the Sea Gulls a 15-6 lead with 14:34 left in the first half.
  • Three straight triples from Lynchburg cut the lead back down to five, 26-21, with just under nine minutes on the clock.
  • The back-and-forth continued over the next few minutes before Bloodsworth bookended a 7-0 run with tough layup and a trey to put Salisbury up 39-27 with 5:26 to go.
  • Lynchburg battles back after Elijah Davis drew a foul on a tough layup and converted the and-one attempt to bring the Hornets within six, 41-35, with two minutes left in the first half.
  • Salisbury responded with a quick four points from a Buddah Spencer layup and two free throws from Brendan Davis to go up 45-35 with just under 30 seconds left.
  • On the final possession for Lynchburg, Trey Pittman drew a foul on a three-point shot and converted all three attempts to send the teams into halftime with a score of 45-38.
  • On the Sea Gulls' first possession of the second half Kaiden Mines knocked down a triple to put the Sea Gulls back up 10, 48-38.
  • The Hornets began to chip away at the lead over the next several minutes. With 12:32 on the clock, Jordan Parham buried a mid-range jumper to pull to within three, 55-52.
  • A few minutes later, Jayson Easton hit a three-pointer to bring Lynchburg within two, 63-61, with nine minutes to play.
  • Salisbury answered with a 13-2 run capped off by a Jordan Oates deep three that forced Lynchburg to take a timeout with 4:43 left on the clock.
  • Another three-pointer from Oates gave the Sea Gulls its largest lead of the day, 82-66, with 1:42 left to play.
  • Both teams added a few more points in the closing moments of the game to give it a final score of 83-69.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

  • Salisbury shot a season-best 56.6 percent (30-for-53) from the field, including 42.9 percent (9-for-21) from deep.
  • Brandon Craig fell just shy of a double-double with a game-high 23 points on 10-for-14 shooting and nine rebounds. Craig also added three steals.
  • Jordan Oates registered his second consecutive double-double with 16 points, including 4-for-8 from three-point range and 13 rebounds.
  • Greg Bloodsworth added 20 points and three assists.
  • Salisbury won the battle on the glass with a 38-29 edge over Lynchburg.

LYNCHBURG GAME NOTES

  • Lynchburg shot 37.9 percent (25-for-66) from the field, including 34.8 percent (8-for-23) from deep.
  • Trey Pittman led the Hornets with 19 points and six rebounds.
  • Jordan Parham added 12 points off the bench.
  • Piercen Young hauled in a team-high eight rebounds.

UP NEXT

  • Salisbury returns to the home court and will host Cabrini on Saturday, Jan. 7.
  • Tip-off will follow the women's game at approximately 4 p.m. at Maggs PAC in Salisbury.
