#18 CWRU Remains Undefeated with 89-61 Win over Adrian

Case Western Reserve University sophomore forward Umar Rashid scored a career-high 21 points and senior forward Cole Frilling added his fifth double-double through six games this season as the 18th-ranked Spartans nearly led wire-to-wire in an 89-61 win over Adrian College at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland on Saturday.

CWRU improved to a program-best 6-0 for the season, while Adrian dropped to 2-3 following the loss.

Rashid finished the game shooting eight-of-14, including three-of-seven from three-point range, and added eight rebounds. The 21 points marked his fifth double-figure scoring effort of the season.

Frilling added 13 points and a season-high 12 rebounds, while also dishing out four assists. Sophomore guard Sam Trunley came off the bench to add 12 points to the scoring effort.

Rashid and Trunley combined for 24 of the Spartans' 50 first-half points leading CWRU to a 21-point lead by the break. After falling behind 2-0 on the opening basket of the game, CWRU scored nine unanswered points to go ahead 9-2 on a layup by junior guard Luke Thorburn with 16:58 left in the period. The Spartans led by as many as 23 points in the period, going ahead 50-27 on a three by graduate student guard Danny Frauenheim with 43 seconds left in the frame, before heading into the locker room ahead 50-29.

CWRU maintained at least a 20-point lead throughout the second half and led by as many as 32 points during the game.

Eleven different CWRU players scored at least two points in Saturday's game, and 17 players saw action for the Spartans in the contest. The Spartans collected a season-high 56 rebounds, compared to just 31 in the game for Adrian, while dishing out a season-best 17 assists. CWRU finished the game shooting 46.6% (34-73) overall.

The Spartans will be back in action in a week, traveling to Kalamazoo, Michigan on Saturday, December 10 for a 1:00 p.m. contest against the Kalamazoo College Hornets.
