Spartans Bested by Bluejays

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Manchester men's basketball team traveled to No. 23 Elmhurst University on Tuesday, November 22nd for a non-conference game. The Spartans were bested by the Bluejays 88-72. 

The Spartans were able to grab a quick lead thanks to a layup by Quentez Columbus (South Bend, Ind.) and a made three-pointer by Mitch Mendenhall (New Haven, Ind.) in the first half. The Bluejays quickly answered with a fast break layup and a 15-5 scoring run to finished the first half with a 13 point lead. 

The Spartans were able to narrow the lead in the second-half thanks to a nine-point burst, but the Bluejays were able to hold off the Black and Gold to extend their winning streak and improve to 5-0 on the season. 
 
Ocean Johnson led Elmhurst with 18 points and went 7-14 from field goal range. John Ittounas added 15 points and 6 rebounds for Elmhurst while Wesley Hooker added 13 points and Myles Thomas another 11 points for the Bluejays. Jonathan Zapinski led Elmhurst with 11 rebounds and 3 blocks. 

A trio of Spartans scored in double-digits during Tuesday's contest. Sophomore guard Ty Lynas (Crawfordsville, Ind.) finished the night with 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals. Kolby Bullard (Noblesville, Ind.) chipped in 12 points, going 3-6 from three-point range.  First-Year Mike Elliott (Indianapolis, Ind.) added 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 blocks for MU. As a team, Manchester finished the night with a 35.5 field goal percentage and shot 64.7% from the free throw line. 

Following Tuesday night's loss, Manchester falls to 0-4 on the year and will look to get into the win column as the Spartans gear up to host the Transylvania Pioneers on Sunday, November 27th for the first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matchup of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.
