NEWPORT, R.I. – The Connecticut College men's basketball team forced a season-high 24 turnovers in a 49-39 victory over Salve Regina University on Tuesday night at the Rodgers Recreation Center.

The Camels extended their winning streak to four games and improved to 4-1 for the first time since 2016-17. Conn also snapped a string of three straight losses to Salve Regina and picked up its first win in the series since 2012.

Cam Schainfeld (Newton, Mass.) and RJ Casey (Nashville, Tenn.) scored 10 points apiece to lead Conn. The Camels shot just 30 percent for the game but made up for it by turning the 24 turnovers into 23 points. It also marked the second time this season that Conn's defense has held an opponent under 40 points.

The visitors struggled in the early going, shooting 1-for-14 from the floor in the opening 10 minutes of the contest. However, the Camels stayed in the game by smothering the Seahawks on the defensive end, and trailed only 8-2 before the offense kicked into high gear.

A jumper in the lane by Andrew Hartel (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) ignited a six-minute stretch where Conn erupted for 17 unanswered points. Ben Rice (Hanson, Mass.) supplied a three and a dunk during the spurt, and Schainfeld contributed a layup and a three-point play. Casey capped the run with a three-pointer with 3:22 to go in the half to put the Camels on top 19-8.

David Murray (Jackson Heights, N.Y.) scored the final bucket of the half to give the Camels a 23-14 advantage at the break. Conn's defense produced 15 turnovers in the stanza, 11 of which came via a steal.

Casey knocked down a three to open the second-half scoring, and minutes later a layup by Murray put Conn up by 15. After Salve Regina reeled off six straight points to cut the deficit back to single digits, the Camels countered with an 11-0 run the included two three-pointers from Elias Espinosa (Ridgefield Park, N.J.), a three-ball by Billy Whelan (Hamilton, Mass.) and Murray jumper to bump the margin to 44-24.

Conn led by as many as 21 in the second half en route to the victory, although Salve Regina whittled the deficit down to 12 in the final five minutes. Mikey Spencer paced the Seahawks with a game-high 15 points.

Conn College will next host Eastern Connecticut State University on Sunday, November 27 at 2:00 p.m.
