Salisbury stumbles to Roanoke

SALEM, Va. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team fell to host Roanoke, 81-59, in the championship game of the Frankie Allen Tip-off Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Salem, Va.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Down 6-4 in the early goings, Andrew Silver sunk a three-point jumper to spark a 7-0 run for Salisbury to go up 11-6 with 15 minutes left in the first half.
  • Following a media timeout, Roanoke went on a 19-1 run over the next several minutes to go up 25-12 with four minutes to go.
  • Silver finally stifled the run for the Sea Gulls with a layup at the 3:32 mark, and a few possessions later drilled his second three of the game to cut into the lead and make it 27-17 with just under two minutes left in the period.
  • The Maroons closed out the first half on a 6-2 run to head into halftime with a 33-19 lead.
  • Jordan Oates came out hot for Salisbury and scored a layup and a three-pointer to cut into Roanoke's lead early in the second half.
  • Both teams began to go back-and-forth knocking down shots over the next few minutes.
  • Roanoke began to pull away and jumped out to its biggest lead of the day, 70-42, with 7:15 left on the clock,
  • Greg Bloodsworth stifled the Maroons offense by scoring the next 10 points of the game for the Sea Gulls, including two three-pointers, to cut into the lead and make it 70-52 at the 4:15 mark.
  • Both teams knocked down shots in the closing minutes of the match, but the deficit was too large for the Sea Gulls to overcome and the game ended with final score of 81-59.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

  • Salisbury shot 39 percent (23-for-59) from the field, including 31.8 percent (7-for-22) from deep.
  • Greg Bloodsworth led the Sea Gulls in scoring with 14 points.
  • Andrew Silver scored 11 points on 4-for-5 shooting, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
  • Jordan Oates scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds.
  • Brandon Craig just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds. He also added a team-high three assists.

ROANOKE GAME NOTES

  • Roanoke shot 50.9 percent (29-for-57) from the field, including 41.2 percent (7-for-17) from three.
  • Kasey Draper scored a game-high 15 points on 5-for-11 shooting.
  • Justin Kuthan scored 13 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebound off the bench.
  • Zach Rosenthal scored 12 points off the bench.

UP NEXT

  • Salisbury will host Gallaudet on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
  • Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Maggs PAC.
