Spartans Drop Season Opener at Trine

ANGOLA, Ind. - The Manchester men's basketball team dropped Tuesday night's road contest against Trine University 78-67. Despite a double-digit loss, the Spartans played a hard-fought game to begin the 2022-23 season. 

Brent Cox led the Thunder with a double-double, totaling 24 points and 11 rebounds on the night. Connor Jones added 19 points while Emmanuel Megnanglo totaled 11 rebounds and 4 blocks. As a team, the Thunder out-shot the Spartans with a 48.3 shooting percentage from the field and 75.0% from the free-throw line. 

Four Spartans finished Tuesday's game in double digits. Bryant Smith (West Lafayette, Ind., Harrison) and Ty Lynas (Crawfordsville, Ind., Crawfordsville) each had 15 points, Kolby Bullard (Noblesville, Ind., Lapel) added 14 points, and Logan Willoughby (Greenwood, Ind., Whiteland Community) finished with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Ty Lynas led the Spartans with 3 steals, as part of Trine's 18 turnovers on the night. As a team, the Spartans shot 39.7% from the field and 61.1% from the free-throw line. 

Manchester, now 0-1 on the season, will host Kalamazoo College in Stauffer-Wolfe Arena on Friday, November 11th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. During last year's matchup between the Spartans and the Bulldogs, Kalamazoo was able to slip past Manchester with a score of 71-64.
