Keuka College Men’s Basketball Defeats Wells College to Open Season

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Men's Basketball team defeated Wells College 92-63 at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center to open the 2022-23 season.

Devin Milton (Opelousas, La. / Beau Chene) led Keuka College (1-0) with 23 points. Daniel Obunse (Queens, N.Y. / Flushing) added 15 points and eight rebounds. Also in double figures for the Wolves were Lorenzo Bicknese (Somers, N.Y / Somers) and Will Tehan (Victor, N.Y. / Victor), each with 10 points.

Keuka College got off to a fast start as Lorenzo Bicknese hit the first shot of the game, a three-pointer 16 seconds in for the lead. Keuka hit three threes in the opening three minutes and jumped to a 13-4 advantage, forcing Wells into a timeout. The Express would trim the lead down to four points on multiple occasions, but Keuka would always answer and extend the margin. The Wolves would play with a double-digit lead for the final eight minutes of the half. Daniel Obunse drained threes on back-to-back possessions to push the lead to 38-22. Devin Milton would hit a jumper in the final seconds, his 21st point of the night, as Keuka College lead 46-31 at the half.

Wells College scored the first five points of the half as they attempted to stay in the game, but a three-pointer by Ezeke Pulliam (Knox, N.Y. / Berne-Knox-Westerlo) pushed the lead back to 13. Wells cut the lead to 10 before the three and that was as close as the Express would get the game the rest of the night. The Wolves would push the lead to 20 and it would continue to grow. It was a big opening night as nine different Wolves scored in the second half as Keuka cruised to the 92-63 season-opening victory.

  • The Wolves improve to 9-18 all-time against Wells College. The 29-point victory was the largest for Keuka College in the series with the Express
  • Keuka College snapped a three-game losing streak in season openers
  • Sophomore Ezeke Pulliam had a big game in his first career start. Pulliam set new career highs with nine points, six assists, and three steals. He also went a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line
  • Keion Brooks (Titusville, Fla. / Home-Schooled) also had a strong day facilitating the offense. The sophomore set a new career high with five assists
  • Mason VanDeMortel (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) had a game-high nine rebounds
  • The 2022-23 team has a strong mix of returners and new players. 15 Wolves saw the floor on Wednesday with five making their Keuka College debuts

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves have a slight pause in their schedule. The Green and Gold will be back on the floor a week from Saturday on November 19 as they play at Hilbert College. The Green and Gold will look to avenge last year's game as the Wolves lost on a final-second layup 99-98. Tipoff from Hilbert College is scheduled for 2 p.m.
