The Hope College men's basketball team went from frigid to red-hot from 3-point range in a short span against Kalamazoo College on Tuesday.

The top-seeded Flying Dutchmen soared to an 80-58 win in the MIAA Tournament quarterfinals at DeVos Fieldhouse behind nine second-half 3-pointers at a 60-percent clip.

During the first half, Hope (20-6 overall) sank only three 3-pointers at a 16.7-percent clip.

"I thought the offensive possessions were crisper and cleaner," head coach Greg Mitchell said. "We had options in the first half. They were OK looks. I felt we attacked more (after halftime). It felt like they were generated on a more solid assist. They were in-rhythm shots. Once you see one goes in, the hoop gets bigger psychologically."

Six different Flying Dutchmen buried at least one 3-pointer during the second half and propelled Hope to 48 points after halftime.

The MIAA regular season champions broke open a game that the Flying Dutchmen led, 32-26, at halftime.

Hope advanced to Friday's semifinals and will host fourth-seeded Albion College at a time to be determined after Wednesday's MIAA Women's Basketball quarterfinals. On Tuesday, Albion (14-12) defeated fifth-seeded Olivet College, 92-69, in quarterfinal play.

Guard Evan Thomas topped the Flying Dutchmen with a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds. The junior shot 60 percent from the field (9-15) and equaled his career-highs in rebounds.

Earlier in the day, Thomas named the MIAA's MVP in men's basketball. He was joined on the All-MIAA First Team by teammate Clayton Dykhouse.

Dykhouse (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) chipped in 16 points and a game-high five assists. The junior shared game-high honors with four 3-pointers.

Senior guard Tyler George (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) scored 14 points, including 4-of-4 shooting from 3-point range and 3-of-3 during the second half.
