LaBelle and Poueriet Combine for 63 In OT Win at Marywood

SCRANTON, Pa. – Chris LaBelle and Isaac Poueriet combined for 63 points to lead the Centenary University men's basketball team to a 95-94 overtime win at Marywood University in Atlantic East play on Saturday afternoon. The Cyclones improved to 3-0 in overtime contests this season.

LaBelle contributed 38 points and 11 assists in the contest. His 11 assists are tied for second most in single-game history at Centenary and his 38 points are fifth most in single-game history.

The Cyclones quickly jumped out to a 7-2 lead on a Poueriet jumper at 18:28.

The two teams continued to battle as a Billy Veras triple at 14:48 put the visitors up 19-9.

Back-to-back triples from Veras and Shawn Falk extended the Cyclones' advantage to 27-15 with 11:07 to go until the half.

The two teams continued to battle before Marywood used a 13-0 run to cut the Cyclones lead to one, 34-33 with 3:59 on the clock.

Marywood scored five of the final seven points in the half and took a 38-37 edge at the break.

A jumper from Trevor Giordano at 18:16 of the second half gave Centenary a 44-43 edge.

The two teams went back-and-forth on both ends of the court as a LaBelle jumper at 14:45 gave Centenary a 55-51 lead.

The Cyclones and Pacers continued to battle as a Giordano jumper at 11:24 put the visitors on top, 63-58.

Marywood scored nine of the next 13 points and tied the game at 67-67 with 7:09 to play.

Lay-ups from Veras and Poueriet gave Centenary a 76-69 lead with 4:21 left in regulation.

A 13-2 run gave Marywood an 82-78 lead with 1:33 to go in the game.

The Cyclones scored the final five points in regulation, including three from LaBelle to tie the game at 83-83.

The two teams went back-and-forth to start overtime. A triple from Veras and a bucket from LaBelle put the Cyclones on top 90-87 with 2:22 to play.

After Marywood pulled to within one, Centenary went 3-for-4 from the foul line to close out the 95-94 win.

Centenary shot 50.7% from the field and was 15-for-26 from the foul line. Marywood shot 48.1% from the field and was 11-for-17 from the foul line. The Pacers won the rebounding battle, 47-36.

In addition to LaBelle's impressive performance, Poueriet and Veras both posted double-doubles for the Cyclones. Poueriet had 25 points and 10 rebounds while Veras added 15 points and 13 rebounds. Giordano had 11 points off the bench.

Adam Boussatta had 25 points and 10 rebounds for Marywood.

Centenary is back in action on Monday, Feb. 14 when it hosts Neumann at 8 p.m.
