Hackettstown, N.J. - (2/7/2022) - Gwynedd Mercy University (12-8, 4-4) got revenge for last Monday's overtime loss to Centenary University (8-10, 2-6) with tonight's 62-57 victory over the Cyclones. Senior guard Ty Jones (Harlem, N.Y.) headlined the Griffin triumph with his fourth double-double of the season; 17 points and 10 rebounds. Jones' performance was supported by 14 points, four rebounds, six assists, and a steal from graduate guard Matt O'Connor (Philadelphia, Pa.) as well as valuable contributions from sophomore guard Manny Clark (Pottsgrove, Pa.) (11 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals) and graduate forward Donaven Spencer (Timber Creek, N.J.) (5 points, 14 rebounds, 1 steal). In the end, a 56-35 rebounding advantage and a 10-of-12 (..833) free throw shooting performance ensured the Griffin win.

After trailing Centenary University for most of the first 10 minutes, Gwynedd Mercy University took their first lead on a basket from senior forward Shane Ford (Blue Bell, Pa.), 14-12 (9:17). From there, the Griffins held the upper hand, pacing the Cyclones to ties of 21-21 (4:12) and 25-25 (2:24) before a closing 5-0 run, 30-25 (0:00). In the second half, Jones and O'Connor kept Gwynedd Mercy University in the driver's seat, initially extending the Griffins' lead to 11 points, 39-28 (13:37), before fending off Centenary's late rally. The Cyclones evened the affair at 48-48 with 6:45 to play and took a brief 51-50 (5:28) advantage before clutch baskets from Clark (4:11, 3:22) and Jones (2:28, 0:33) laid the groundwork for O'Connor's game-clinching free throws, 62-57 (0:07).

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the Griffin Complex on Wednesday, February 9, when they host Immaculata University for an 8:00 p.m. AEC contest.
