Nor'easters drop Colonels, convincingly, 91-64

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Alex Kravchuk and Ray Evans combined for 50 points to pace the University of New England men's basketball team in its best performance of the season on Wednesday night (Feb. 2), a 91-64 Commowealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory over Curry College on Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum.

Now with two wins over the Colonels this season, the Nor'easters improve to 4-16 overall and 3-10 in league matchups.

While allowing a season-low point total on defense, UNE's offense logged season highs for points, field goal percentage, three-point accuracy, and assists. The hosts shot 38-for-71 from the floor (53.5%), knocked down 12-of-24 from deep, and helped on 24 of their baskets.

Kravchuk drained five from downtown on the way to 28 points, and grabbed nine rebounds. Evans went 4-of-7 from long distance and netted 22 points.

The Nor'easters dialed up a 19-0 spurt in just over four minutes during the 1st period to go up 29-11, with Evans accounting for more than half (10). After a Curry bucket ended the run, Evans tossed in another five on the next two trips to extend the gap to 21. Evans had 19 of his points by the break, when it was 48-27.

Kravchuk notched 17 of his after halftime, and the hosts maintained a cushion of no less than 17 throughout the 2nd.

Anthony Senesombath added 10 points in the contest for UNE, as did Joey Ragosta on 4-of-5 shooting off the bench. In addition to eight points and four assists, Drake Gavin corralled a game-high 10 rebounds, leading a 45-29 edge on the glass. Avery DeBrito dished out six assists.

For the Colonels (2-17, 1-11 CCC), Nick Johnson recorded 15 points and Sante Smith went for nine points and six boards. The visitors connected at a 40 percent clip from the field (26-for-65).
