46-10 Run Helps #1 R-MC Men’s Hoops Win at FC

FERRUM, Va. – Senior Buzz Anthony (Arnold, Md./Archbishop Spalding) had 17 points and eight assists as the top-ranked Randolph-Macon men's basketball team used a 46-10 run over a 16-minute span to win 86-48 at Ferrum on Saturday afternoon in ODAC action.

How it Happened:

  • Junior Miles Mallory (Beltsville, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) had the first basket of the game for the Yellow Jackets. Junior Josh Talbert (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) hit a pair of free throws to give R-MC a 6-4 lead three minutes into the contest before five straight points by the Panthers gave the home team a 9-6 edge. FC had a 19-16 lead before a three-pointer by senior DaQuan Morris (Philadelphia, Pa./Hill School) sparked an 11-0 run as the visitors went up 27-19 with 5:15 left in the first half. The Panthers hit a trey to pull within five before triples by senior Ian Robertson (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) and Anthony gave the Yellow Jackets a 33-22 lead with four minutes remaining. After a bucket by FC, Anthony and Robertson had layups in the final minute to give R-MC a 37-24 halftime lead. The Yellow Jackets ended the half on a 21-5 run.
  • R-MC would start the second half with a 25-5 spurt, making it a 46-10 overall run, to take a 62-29 lead with 12:30 remaining. Robertson had a three-pointer to cap the rally. Anthony had seven points and Talbert had five early in the second half for the Yellow Jackets.  The Panthers tallied six straight points before sophomore Daniel Mbangue (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) had seven points in a 12-0 run as R-MC went up 74-35 with 7:30 left. Junior Loginn Norton (Chesterfield, Va./James River) had a three-point play to complete the scoring, making the final 86-48.

By The Numbers:

  • The 48 points by Ferrum were the lowest point total for an R-MC opponent this season.
  • The Yellow Jackets had four players score in double figures. Anthony had 17, Robertson had 16, Mallory added 15 and Talbert tallied 13.
  • R-MC shot 53% from the floor (31-59). The Yellow Jackets had a 34-18 advantage on points in the paint.
  • R-MC had a 35-26 edge on the glass. Mallory paced the victors with nine.
  • Anthony had eight assists and Talbert dished out five.

  • R-MC extended its win streak to eight.
  • The Yellow Jackets are 14-0 all-time against Ferrum.
  • Over the past eight games, R-MC is holding its opponents to 54.5 points per contest.
  • Mallory's three blocks give him 138 for his career, moving him past Jordan Brown into second place in program history. Pat Holland owns the school record with 174.
  • Anthony had a season-high five steals, matching his career high, to give him 212 for his career, a program record.
  • Anthony had eight assists to give him 652 in his career, the second-highest total in program history and the second-highest total in ODAC history.
  • Anthony had 17 points to give him 1,674 for his career, the fourth-highest total in program history.
