Two Double-Doubles Propel Hunter Over York, 123-118

NEW YORK -- The Hunter College men's basketball team defeated York College in a conference contest at home on Wednesday evening, 123-118.

Two Hawks logged double-doubles in the win in Luka Jakic with 20 points and 18 rebounds and Barrett Lowe with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Conference Rookie of the Week, Jeremy Montrose came close to one himself, with 18 points and 7 boards on the night. 

The Hawks (7-8, 3-3 CUNYAC) started off hot, with back to back threes from Cormac Reilly in the first half. Ryan Lau also logged a pair of uninterrupted threes in the half, but York took the lead towards the end of the period and sent Hunter to the intermission trailing 65-55.

York held the lead until 6:25 as Joash Nyarko landed one from beyond the arc. The Cardinals answered back with a jumper, but just two possessions later and three from Jared Brown put the Hawks ahead, where they stayed for the remainder of play.

The Purple and Gold forced 24 turnovers, compared to York's 14 and locked in 13 three pointers, altough the Cardinals outshot Hunter with a 58.3 overall percentage, they couldn't keep up with the Hawks' fast paced play.

Hunter returns to the court on Jan. 21 for another home conference contest against The City College of New York at 7:00 p.m.
