GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Balanced scored and a decided edge on the glass helped lift the Grove City College men's basketball team to a 78-59 victory Tuesday night over visiting Saint Vincent in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena. The win is the 320th for 24th-year head coach Steve Lamie, who now has sole possession of first place on Grove City's career wins list.
Three men scored in double figures for Grove City (6-6, 2-3 PAC), led by a 14-point outing from freshman guard Jonah Bock (Erie, Pa./McDowell). Junior forward Elijah White (Zelienople, Pa./Portersville Christian) posted a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double and junior guard Joshua McCray (Jessup, Md./Ashville College, U.K.) added 12 points. Senior guard Ben Rose (Helena, Ala./Helena) added eight points, nine rebounds and eight assists. White and Rose helped Grove City accumulate a 53-33 rebounding edge. Grove City jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never trailed in the game. Rose hit a jumper with 44 seconds left in the half to give Grove City a 31-22 lead. Following a Saint Vincent turnover, Bock closed the first half by hitting one of his four three-point goals in the game to put the Wolverines ahead 34-22 at halftime. Grove City then scored the first six points of the second half. McCray drilled a three, sophomore forward Luca Robinson (Castaic, Calif./Hart) split a pair of free throws and freshman forward Russ Gump (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) scored off an offensive rebound. Overall, Grove City had 25 offensive rebounds, which led to 23 second-chance points. Freshman guard Chase Yarberough (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) added five assists while McCray had three steals. Grove City forced 12 turnovers and had only eight turnovers. Grove City shot 31 of 80 (39 percent) from the field while Saint Vincent hit 22 of 53 (42 percent) field goal attempts. Robinson added eight points for the Wolverines. Thirteen men scored for Grove City. Osyon Jones led Saint Vincent (2-10, 1-5 PAC) with 22 points. Lamie entered the game tied with John Barr (1972-98) for first place with 319 wins. Lamie played for Barr at Grove City from 1981 to 1985 and then spent four seasons as his assistant coach in the 1990s. Grove City will visit archrival Westminster at 8 p.m. Thursday night in conference play.
