ARLINGTON, Va. - Sophomore Jahn Hines continued his high-scoring streak Saturday, scorching the nets for 23 points as Christopher Newport University defeated Marymount University, 91-66. It marked the second straight game Hines has tallied 23, and the third straight game he has led the 10th-ranked Captains in the scoring column.

The Captains improved their record to 14-2 with their 11th straight victory. Marymount fell to 7-5 with the 25-point loss at Converse Family Fieldhouse, which allowed no fans to be in attendance due to CoVID protocols.

"They jumped on us early, but once we got it going we recovered in a hurry," Head Coach John Krikorian said. "It was difficult playing in an empty gym, and I think that may have had something to do with our slow start. One of our biggest attributes is our depth, and a lot of guys stepped up again for us today. I'm particularly proud of our big men, who all gave us great production."

Marymount jumped to an early 14-point lead before the Captains surged ahead for the first time, 32-31, in the midst of a 32-14 run. CNU held a 44-36 advantage at intermission, and went up by as many as 29 in the second half en route to the 25-point triumph.

Hines led a group of five Captains to reach double figures, making 10 of 20 shots and also pulling down six rebounds and posting three assists. Hines scored all 13 of his first-half points in the final six and a half minutes before halftime as the Captains grabbed control of the game, and went on to score ten more in the second stanza.

Fifth-year senior Jason Aigner connected on six three-point field goals for 18 points. Senior Darian Peterson (12), sophomore Trey Barber (10), and junior Ian Anderson (10) also reached double digits.

The Captains, who haven't lost since November 21st at Lynchburg, out-rebounded the Saints, 45-25, and held a 15-4 edge on the offensive glass. Barber led the way for CNU on the boards with nine to go with his ten points for the day. Christopher Newport made 40 of 73 shots (55%) overall, and knocked down 7 of 23 from beyond the arc (30%), with six coming from Aigner, who is now just two points shy of Mike Green for 15th place on CNU's all-time scoring list.

CNU out-scored the Saints in the paint, 64-34, and registered 18 second-chance points to just five by MU.

Saturday's game was originally scheduled for Wednesday night, but was postponed due to CoVID concerns. CNU's scheduled game Saturday at York College (Pa.) was canceled, allowing for the make-up with the Saints. Christopher Newport is now 23-4 all-time vs. Marymount. Marymount had a three-game winning streak snapped, and the Saints were led by Montell Cooper and Marcus Stubbs, who each scored 12 points.

The Captains next scheduled game is Friday, January 21st, at Cal-Santa Cruz. Christopher Newport could potentially re-schedule two other games in the near future that have recently been postponed due to CoVID. Further schedule updates will be posted on CNUsports.com when they become available.
