• The Short Story: The 12th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's basketball team returned to the hardwood for the first time in a month and led wire-to-wire in an 82-48 win over visiting Dickinson Wednesday night.
How it Happened
• Hopkins jumped out to an 11-0 lead, fueled by three straight triples by Conner Delaney, Ethan Bartlett and Tom Quarry. Dickinson finally got on the board with an Andrew Gostovich jumper at the 17:17-mark to make it an 11-2 game. Quarry answered with a dunk off the feed from Sidney Thybulle pass and the lead see-sawed up and down over the ensuing three minutes.
• Leading by seven, Chid Nnake drove to the basket and laid the ball in to spark a quick 7-0 run as the Blue Jays pushed out to a 26-12 lead with 11:35 to play in the half. Four straight Red Devils pointed sliced the lead to 10 but the Blue Jays answered with a 9-2 spurt over a six-minute span to take a 17-point lead. Dickinson could get no closer than 14 over the final four minutes of the half and Hopkins led 39-23 at the break.
• Buckets by Jack Tierney and Luke Spellman to open the second half, pulled the Red Devils back to within 12. But a pair of Nnake free throws, followed by a Quarry fast-break three-pointer, ignited a methodical 15-2 Blue Jay run. Five different players scored during the run as Hopkins' lead ballooned to 25 with 11:56 to go.
• Dickinson ended the run, and a six-minute scoring drought, with back-to-back Goeb three-pointers to make it a 19-point game. Hopkins answered with 11 straight points, with eight of those coming from Quarry, and the lead grew to 30 (65-35) with 6:57 to play. That 11-point run would do it as the Red Devils would get no closer than 27 in the final seven minutes.
