GALLATIN, Tenn. – The Edgewood College Men's Basketball team played its first game in two weeks on Wednesday, dropping a 78-72 contest against Nazareth College at the Music City Classic, played on the campus of Welch College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles (3-6) led by double-digits early in the second half but Nazareth (7-1) would erase that deficit quickly with a 13-2 run, taking a 47-46 lead with 14:05 left in regulation. The rest of the way was back-and-forth, neither team leading by more than five points until the final two seconds.

- Edgewood College, a team not known for its 3-point shooting, stayed in the game late because of its ability to knock down shots from long range. When the Golden Flyers went up 55-54 with 9:37 left, Adam Baierl hit a 3-point shot to give the Eagles a lead back. Less than two minutes later, Nazareth again took a lead at 59-57, but Baierl once again knocked down a huge 3-point jumper to put the Eagles back in front. Nazareth responded to go up 61-60 before Baierl hit his third-straight shot from downtown, making it 63-61 Eagles with 5:53 left.

- After the Golden Flyers' Steven Gabel tied things at 63-63 it was Avery Lyons turn to hit a big 3-point jumper, putting Edgewood College up 66-63 with just under five minutes to go.

- Jake Schroeckenthaler, who finished with a team-high 19 points and a career-best 17 rebounds, put the Eagles up 68-65 with 3:58 left, but that is when Nazareth took control of the game. The Golden Flyers posted a 7-0 run, with Gabel scoring five points during the stretch, to go up 72-68. Schroeckenthaler stopped the run with two free throws with 28.1 seconds left, but Gabel scored the next four points at the line to put things away, with Zach Stenglein adding two free throws late for the 78-72 final.

- Schroeckenthaler's 17 rebounds helped the Eagles finish the game with a 39-33 edge on the boards. Baierl chipped in 18 points for the Eagles, making 7-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-5 from 3-point range. Caden Nelson added 11 points and a team-best three steals.

- Gabel led all players with 25 points, shooting 7-of-11 from the floor and 11-of-12 from the free throw line. Nazareth finished the game 17-for-20 from the charity stripe compared to a 9-of-13 effort by Edgewood College. The Eagles countered with better shooting from 3-point range, making 7-of-11 compared to a 3-of-13 effort by the Golden Flyers.
