Fast start allows W&J to roll over Saint Vincent in dominant road win, 103-63

LATROBE, Pa. – Four Presidents scored in double figures as the Washington & Jefferson men's basketball team routed Saint Vincent by a 103-63 score Saturday afternoon in a Presidents' Athletic Conference victory at the Robert S. Carey Center.

The 103 points allowed the Presidents to eclipse the century mark for a fourth time in eight games this season.

Nick Gearhart (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon) turned in a near flawless offensive performance. The sophomore guard finished with a game-high 25 points on nine-of-11 shooting from the field. He drained six-of-seven free throw attempts and added five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Sophomore guard J.R. Mazza (Bridgeport, W.Va./University) finished with 20 points with a six-for-12 performance from behind the three-point line.

Junior guard Kyran Mitchell (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) added 13 points, six boars and four assists. Sophomore guard Isaiah Langston (Coraopolis, Pa./Cornell) contributed 12 points and six rebounds. Sophomore guard Michael Bigley (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle) dished out a game-high six assists.

W&J controlled the game from the outset and led by double figures for a large portion of the 40 minutes. The Presidents converted at a 48.7 clip from the field and drained 10 three-pointers during a strong shooting performance.

The Presidents were able to slow the Bearcats offensively, as they limited the home team to 36.4 percent from the field and a 5-of-26 effort from beyond the three-point line. SVC also committed 23 turnovers in the loss.

The victory moves W&J to 2-0 in PAC play and 6-2 overall. The loss drops Saint Vincent to 0-3 in the league and 1-7 overall.

W&J hosts Bethany for a league game at Salvitti Gymnasium on Tuesday, Dec. 7. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
