FDU-Florham Drops 83-59 Decision to Baruch to Close William Marshall Tournament Action

Lancaster, Pa. (November 14) – The FDU-Florham men's basketball team dropped an 83-59 decision to Baruch College on day two of the William Marshall Tournament on the campus of Franklin & Marshall College last night.

For his efforts over the two day event, graduate student Oliver Ortman (North Caldwell, NJ) was named to the 2021 William Marshall All-Tournament Team. Ortman paced the effort for the Devils against Baruch with 17 points on 7-for-15 shooting from the floor to go along with four boards, six assists and a steal.
 
FDU jumped out to an early 7-2 edge following a driving layup by Ortman, but over the next six minutes Baruch worked back for its first lead of the contest at 16-14 midway through the first half after a three pointer by Jack Reese.
 
Both teams traded baskets and knotted the score up at 23-23 with 7:15 remaining on the clock. During the brief run for FDU, the Devils received two points from four different student-athletes including Ortman, Shawn Summers Jr. (Montclair, NJ)Brian Nichols (Roxbury, NJ) and Michael Dabas (Middletown, NJ).

Baruch scored the final 11 points of the first half as the Bearcats held a 34-23 lead at the break. The Bearcats upped the pressure and went on a 10-3 run over the first three minutes of the second half to earn its largest lead of the game to that point at 18, 44-26.

The Devils were able to cut their deficit to 12 at 51-39 following a three pointer by Matthew Johnson with 8:09 to play, but once again Baruch answered and went on to win the game by an 83-59 final.

Johnson posted 14 points and a season-high eight rebounds in the setback for the Devils adding to Ortman's 17 point four rebound effort.
 
As a team, FDU shot 45.3-percent (24-for-53) from the floor, 34.6-percent (9-for-26) from behind the arc and 25.0-percent (2-for-8) from the free throw line. The Devils were able to score 26 points in the paint  and registered 13 points from their bench players.

FDU (1-2) will continue its road swing to open the 2021-22 campaign with a trip to Hunter College on Wednesday, November 17 at 6:00 pm.
