No. 8 Men's Basketball Rebounds with Win Over Mules

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - No. 8 Men's Basketball rebounded with a 79-75 victory over Muhlenberg College in Centennial Conference action on Tuesday night. 

The Garnet improve to 4-1 and 1-0 in CC play, while the Mules drop to 2-4 and 0-1. Swarthmore extends is streak to six straight over Muhlenberg and is 15-0 in their last fifteen contests away from Tarble Pavilion. 

Back-to-back buckets from Conor Harkins and George Corzine with just over a minute remaining in the half, gave Swarthmore a nine point lead. At half, the Garnet were shooting 50% from the field and led by 13 points from Harkins and 11 from George Visconti. Swarthmore out rebounded Muhlenberg 21-12 and led at half with a score of 47-41. 

Vinny DeAngelo scored the first bucket of the second half for the Garnet. After Dan Gaines answered with a layup, Swarthmore went on a 12-0 run for the next four-plus minutes. A pair of threes from Harkins, a jumper from DeAngelo and Colin Shaw, and layup from Michael Caprise accounted for the Garnet points during that run. The Mules slowly cut into the lead, but a pair of layups form Aidan Godfrey kept Muhlenberg down by double-digits. Three consecutive buckets from downtown closed the Swarthmore lead to two points. With just under 30-seconds remaining in the contest, Harkins hit a three-pointer to give the Garnet a 77-75 advantage. A pair of free-throws by DeAngelo closed out the game for Swarthmore.

Harkins led Swarthmore with 22 points, while Visconti added 16 points and six rebounds. Caprise pulled a game-high 11 rebounds and finished the game eight points. The rebound splits for the sophomore forward were pretty even as he tallied six defensive boards and five on the offensive glass. 

Swarthmore will travel to take on Haverford College in a Centennial Conference battle. Tip-off against the Fords is set for 8:00 p.m., and will be preceded by a battle of the Garnet and Fords in women's basketball action.
