NWU Shoots Past HPU To Open Snyder Classic

LINCOLN, Neb. (November 26, 2021) - Nebraska Wesleyan men's basketball opened its home season and the 32nd Annual Snyder Classic with a, 112-104, victory over Howard Payne University. The 112 points are the most by NWU since January 18, 2020 when it scored 115 points against Central College. 

 

The Prairie Wolves had a balanced attack, finishing with six players in double-figure point totals in the shootout. Peter Lash led the way with a game-high 23 points and 12 rebounds. It is the second double-double of the season for Lash. Connor Riekenberg added 22 points, with 12 of those coming behind the three-point arc. The 22 points are a season-high for Riekenberg. 

 

Landon Torneten also recorded a double-double for Nebraska Wesleyan, Torneten's first of the season. Torneten dropped 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Tyler Converse chipped in 12 points with Carter Glenn and Isaiah Thomas each adding 11 points to scorebook. 

 

NWU made a season-best 37 field goals and 14 three-pointers in the win. The Prairie Wolves were 24-for-28 at the free-throw in the victory, also a season-best. The two teams combined for 78 three-pointers and 157 field goals.

 

The Prairie Wolves extended their winning streak in the Snyder Classic to 18 games and netted 100 points for the third time in its last four games in the event.
