ELMHURST, Ill. – A total of 14 different players scored points to lead the Elmhurst University men's basketball team to a 94-54 victory over Alma College at R.A. Faganel Hall.
Elmhurst, ranked 10th in the D3hoops.com national poll, improved to 5-0 on the season while Alma slid to 1-4 overall.
The Bluejays scored the game's first nine points and never looked back, leading from wire-to-wire. Leading by seven with 12:50 left in the opening half, Elmhurst rattled off a 14-2 run to open up a commanding 19-point lead with eight minutes remaining. The Bluejays led by as many as 24 points in the opening half and carried a 41-20 lead into halftime.
Elmhurst came out on fire in the second half, scoring the first 11 points to open up a 32-point cushion just two minutes into the half. With the Bluejays' starters playing limited minutes in the second half, Elmhurst led by as many as 47 points before coasting to the 40-point victory.
Elmhurst shot a blistering 51.5 percent (34-of-66) from the floor, including 50.0 percent (11-of-20) from downtown. The Bluejays committed only four turnovers in the victory while coming away with 14 steals. The Bluejays scored 30 points off of 20 Alma turnovers and outscored Alma 22-2 on the fast break.
Jay Militello led the way for Elmhurst, scoring a season-high 19 points while shooting 7-of-12 from the floor. Ocean Johnson added 13 points, finishing 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Jake Rhode added nine points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals in 20 minutes of action. Bryce Drews came off the bench to score nine while Dominic Genco added eight points. Tagen Pearson and Jase Bergschneider totaled six points apiece for the Bluejays as a total of 14 players hung points on the scoreboard in the victory.
Alma shot 35.0 percent (21-of-60) from the field, but just 20.8 percent (5-of-24) from beyond the arc. Brandon Rake led the Scots in the loss, finishing with 15 points and seven rebounds. Jack Poling added seven for Alma.
Elmhurst returns to action on Sunday, November 28, by hosting Buena Vista University at 4:00 p.m.
