Keuka College Drops Matchup with SUNY Canton 89-81

HAMBURG, N.Y. — The Keuka College Men's Basketball team lost to SUNY Canton 89-81 in the consolation game of the Hawks Against Hunger Tip-off Tournament, hosted by Hilbert College, on Saturday afternoon.

Bench scoring led the way for Keuka College (0-3) with Zayquan Warren (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Holy Cross) leading the way with 13 points and Jorden Lewis (Houston, Texas / Home-Schooled) adding 10 for the Wolves.

SUNY Canton 89 vs. Keuka College 81

The Wolves took an early lead a Zayquan Warren nailed a straightaway three a minute into the contest for the 6-4 edge. Keuka College would continue to lead later as Will Tehan (Victor, N.Y. / Victor) laid it in for the five-point edge 33-28. The Roos responded with six unanswered to take a 34-33 lead with five minutes left in the half. Jorden Lewis drew the game back to level with a pair of free throws as both teams' offenses closed strong. The Roos regained their lead. Warren hit another three for the Wolves to cut the deficit to five with 2:30 left, but SUNY Canton widened their advantage to lead 53-44 at the half.

Keuka College came out of halftime fast. The Wolves scored 10 straight over the first 2:23, capped by a Nana Oteng (Queens, N.Y. / Martin Luther) three to take a 54-53 lead. The game would remain close in the second as it was tied 74-74 with five minutes left to play. The Wolves briefly took a 76-75 lead on free throws by Kobe Schriver (Hooper, Utah / Roy), but SUNY Canton responded with two free throws of their own. Those two free throws by the Roos started an 11-0 run for SUNY Canton to put the game out of reach for the Wolves. SUNY Canton would go on to defeat Keuka College 89-81.

  • The series with SUNY Canton has been defined by runs. The Wolves won the first three meetings with the Roos, but it has been SUNY Canton who has won the last four
  • The Wolves remain winless in three trips to the Hawks Against Hunger Tip-off Tournament

  • It was previously last done in January 2018, but Keuka College has surpassed 50 rebounds as a team in back-to-back games, collecting 51 against John Carroll and 53 against SUNY Canton

  • The Wolves also set a new program record for three-pointers attempted (65) and tied the record for threes made (17)

Up Next for Keuka College: The Green and Gold will remain on the road on Wednesday to face an old friend. Keuka College will travel to Aurora, N.Y. to face Wells College at 7pm. It will be the first time facing each other not as conference-mates as the previous 25 games came when the two were a member of the North Eastern Athletic Conference.
