WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The nationally ranked No. 2 Yeshiva University men's basketball team earned a historic season-opening victory, 90-54, over Lycoming College on Saturday evening. The Maccabees extend their winning streak to 37 games which breaks a tie with UW-Platteville for the second longest winning streak in Division III men's basketball history. SUNY Potsdam won 60 consecutive games from 1985-1987.

It was an impressive road victory for the Blue and White as Lycoming received a vote in the D3hoops.com Men's Basketball Preseason Top 25 Poll.

The Maccabees' defense held the Warriors to just 29.0% shooting from the field. Meanwhile, Yeshiva had a hot shooting night by converting 58.5% of its shot attempts.

"Good team defensive effort to start the season against a very strong Lycoming team," Yeshiva University Head Coach Elliot Steinmetz said. "I am happy with our effort on both sides of the floor."

Ryan Turell led all players with 32 points, while shooting 14-for-20 (70.0%) from the field. The Los Angeles native also grabbed five rebounds, dished out a pair of assists, and blocked a shot. Gabriel Leifer had a game-high 10 rebounds, while scoring seven points and distributing six assists.

Ofek Reef tallied 16 points (7-for-10 shooting), four rebounds, and three assists. Eitan Halpert went a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc on his way to 13 points, while bringing down five rebounds and delivering two assists.

Yeshiva jumped out to an early 13-5 lead, but Lycoming answered with an 8-0 to tie it up. The Maccabees finished the first half on a 31-5 run to take a commanding lead. The Warriors could not generate a consistent run in the second half to get back in the game as the Blue and White went on to earn its 37th consecutive victory.

For the Macs, Jordan Armstrong produced eight points, four rebounds, and two blocks. Matan Zucker scored seven points and grabbed just as many boards. Ethan Lasko forced five steals and brought down five caroms off the bench.

No. 2 Yeshiva will return to Lamade Gymnasium for the second day of the Dutch Burch Tip-off on Sunday. YU will take on Penn State Schuylkill at 2:00 p.m.
