Seemann shoots W&J past Thiel for 83-74 Senior Night victory

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's basketball team scored 15-straight points to begin the second half and staved off a late push by Thiel to earn an 83-74 Senior Night victory over Thiel at the Salvitti Family Gymnasium on Wednesday evening.
 
The Presidents led 39-33 at halftime, and reeled off a 15-0 run in the first three minutes of the second half. Cameron Seemann (Loveland, Ohio/Archbishop Moeller) had back-to-back baskets, Kyran Mitchell (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) made a pair of free throws, Zach Queen(Jeannette, Pa./Hempfield Area) converted a shot, Mitchell knocked down a three and Jake Livingston(Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) converted a pair of layups.
 
When all was said and done, W&J led 54-33 with 17:01 left in regulation, the Presidents' largest lead of the evening.
 
The Tomcats trimmed the W&J advantage to 10 with 8:09 remaining at 68-58, but Livingston responded with a pair of baskets to put W&J ahead by 14.
 
Thiel used an 11-2 run that included a pair of three-pointers to cut the Presidents' lead to 77-72 with 3:55 left. Neither team scored for nearly two minutes, but it was Livingston who converted the next basket to give the presidents some breathing room. Seemann and Nicholas Campalong (Sewickley, Pa./Ambridge) scored in the final minute to put the game away.
 
The Presidents had four players score in double-figures. Seemann poured in a season-best 27 points in 27 minutes on 11-of-17 shooting and with four made threes.
 
Livingston also posted season-high with 19 points on eight-of-11 shooting and seven rebounds. Mitchell added 16 points with a pair of threes and Campalong had 10 points, four assists, three rebounds and a pair of blocks.
 
AJ Blue (Kensington, Md./Sidwell Friends (D.C.)) dished a career-high eight assists, had five rebounds, two steels and two points. Queen had nine points.
 
The Presidents opened Senior Night with a nine of the game's first 11 points and led 15-5 with 13:17 to play in the first half. Seemann scored seven points in the game's first seven minutes with a three and two layups.
 
The Tomcats worked their way back into the game with a balanced scoring run. Thiel went on a 16-4 spurt that saw six different Thiel players score. Thiel's Omahn Dobbins put the Tomcats ahead 21-19 with 7:59 left in the first half.
 
The Presidents quickly responded with a layup from Mitchell to tie the game at 21, then Mitchell found Queen in the corner for a go-ahead three. The five-point burst on consecutive possessions kickstarted an 18-6 stretch in favor of the Presidents. Livingston converted three layups in the run and Seemann's three with 3:09 left put the Presidents ahead 37-27. W&J carried a 39-33 lead into the halftime break.
 
W&J shot 54.8 percent (34-of-62) from the field, finished plus-eight (38-30) in the rebounding margin and scored 52 points in the paint.
 
The Presidents will host a PAC Tournament quarterfinal for the second-straight season. W&J will host the No. 6 seed on Tuesday evening.
