BETHANY, W.Va. -- A strong shooting performance in the second half guided the Washington & Jefferson College men's basketball team to a 71-60 road victory over Bethany on Wednesday evening.
The win was the fourth straight for the Presidents, who improve to 5-1 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play. The loss keeps the Bison winless at 0-6.
Cameron Seemann (Loveland, Ohio/Archbishop Moeller) poured in a game-high 18 points. Jake Livingston(Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) and Nicholas Campalong(Sewickley, Pa./Ambridge) each recorded double-doubles as W&J produced significant advantages in the paint. Livingston finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double in the past three games. Campalong scored 12 points and added 11 boards in his first double-double since Jan. 5, 2019.
W&J built an early lead and never trailed in the victory. Seemann and Livingston combined for the first nine points as the Presidents to an early 9-4 lead. A three-pointer by Zach Queen (Jeannette, Pa./Hempfield) made the score 18-11 with 8:42 left in the opening half. A basket by Livingston with 1:01 to go in the half extended the Presidents' lead to 26-19. However, the home team countered with five straight to trim the deficit to 26-24 at half. Livingston led all players with 10 points and five rebounds at the break.
The Presidents maintained a slim lead until scoring seven straight points to extend the margin to 45-37 on a layup by J.R. Mazza (Bridgeport, W.Va./University) with 9:39 to play. The Bison closed to within four (46-42) with a spurt of their own. W&J would effectively put the game away with 10 straight points to build a 56-42 lead at the 6:09 mark. A triple by Seemann and a three-point play by Mazza capped the run. Campalong put an exclamation point on the victory with a dunk with 1:37 to play.
