Benedictine Men Hold Off Lake Forest

LISLE, IL - Using a non-conference game to give different players playing time, the Benedictine University men's basketball team rallied to hold off Lake Forest and claim a third straight win.

THE DETAILS
Utilizing a different starting lineup, Benedictine scored the first five points of the game on a basket from Kevin Agwomoh and a three-pointer from Kyle Hornacek
Lake Forest scored the next eight points and the back-and-forth nature of the contest was underway
Collin Mergl drained a three-pointer at the halfway point of the first to put Benedictine ahead by four points at 20-16
The visitors scored the next six points to take the lead and used a 10-0 run to lead by nine late in the half, taking a 34-27 lead into the break
Agwomoh scored the first eight Benedictine points of the second half as the team battled back
A three-pointer from Hornacek was part of an 8-0 run that put Benedictine ahead for good with 8:58 to play
Benedictine led by as many as eight points but needed to hold off Lake Forest in the final two minutes
Lake Forest pulled within one with 2:09 left and had a chance to tie the game with free throws in the closing moments but Benedictine held on, forcing three turnovers

Agwomoh finished with 15 points and seven rebounds to lead Benedictine
Hornacek and Nate Shead also reached double figures with 10 apiece
After shooting under 30 percent in the first half, Benedictine shot 44 percent in the second half to finish at 36 percent for the game
Lake Forest finished +12 on the glass
The bench contributed 33 points for Benedictine, who made 10 three-pointers in a game that featured five ties and eight lead changes
