LOS ANGELESJacob Adler, Ryan Kaneshiro and Caleb Yellin-Flaherty were all named All-SCIAC on Thursday.

Adler, who was second in the SCIAC in scoring at 18.1 points per game, was named to the First Team, and Kaneshiro and Yellin-Flaherty were named to the Second Team.

All three players earned the distinction for the first time in their careers.

Kaneshiro also earned the Ducey Award that is given each year to a senior who best exemplifies the high ideals demonstrated by Ted Ducey during his tenure as head basketball coach at Claremont College.

Adler, a 6-foot junior guard from Portland, Ore., was one of the league's best shooters, shooting 48 percent from the field and 38 percent from three. He scored at least 10 points in every SCIAC game, including seven games with at least 20 points. He also led the league in minutes played, was seventh in assists with 3.6, 10th in steals with 1.3 per game and became a very solid defensive player.

Yellin-Flaherty, a 6-foot-5 senior forward from New York City, ranked fifth in scoring with 16.5 points per game, led the SCIAC in rebounding with better than 8 rebounds per game and was third in steals with 2 per game. He scored 31 points in a loss to Redlands and 30 in Oxy's win over league champion Pomona-Pitzer.

Kaneshiro, a 6-foot-2 senior guard from Santa Clarita, was recognized as maybe the league's best passer and defender. He led the SCIAC in assists with 6.3 per game, averaged better than 5 rebounds per game as a guard, and is currently third in the nation in assist to turnover ratio. Every game he guards one of the other team's best players and is the cornerstone of Oxy's signature defense.

Kaneshiro's selection as the Ducey Award winner demonstrates the respect the conference coaches had for his abilities on and off the court.

More About Ducey Award: The recipient must qualify as both a player and person according to the following criteria: Ability: The recipient is recognized as a well-rounded basketball player who has demonstrated in conference play the utmost use of his athletic ability. Personal Characteristics: (1) leadership: has a positive influence upon conference basketball by personal example of leadership on the floor, (2) self-discipline: has demonstrated a high degree of self-restraint with officials and players, (3) Determination: has demonstrated the tenacious will to succeed in competition, (4) Sportsmanship: has demonstrated fairness, courteous relationships and graceful acceptance of results, and (5) Academics: has shown sincerity of purpose in his academic pursuits.

The Tigers are headed to No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer for the SCIAC Playoffs on Friday night at 7 p.m. as the No. 4 seed.
