LOS ANGELES — The Occidental men's basketball team didn't play its best game, but managed to escape with a 67-61 win over Cal Lutheran at Rush Gym on Saturday afternoon.
Kyle Dosa led four Oxy players in double figures with 14 points, Caleb Yellin-Flaherty had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, Jacob Adler had 12 points, three rebounds and three assists, and Anthony Hollerich had 11 points, three rebounds and three assists in his first career start.
Ryan Kaneshiro led the Tigers during their good stretches with tremendous on ball defense, keeping Cal Lutheran drivers out of the paint. He finished the game with eight points, six assists, three steals and three rebounds.
Oxy got a big boost from Isaak Ottmar, who was active at both ends, contributing seven points, six rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block in 23 minutes off of the bench.
Brooks Mallory led Cal Lutheran and the game with 16 points.
Oxy got off to a slow start shooting the ball, but still led 37-29 by halftime.
In the second half, the Tigers slowly increased the lead to 14 points at one point down the stretch, but the Kingsmen did not quit and nearly got it to a one possession game late.
The Tigers passed the ball well, finishing with 20 assists and just seven turnovers as a group.
Season Impact: Oxy improves to 15-5 overall and 7-4 in SCIAC play.
Cal Lutheran falls to 3-18 and 1-11.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Rush Gym.
