HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Junior Chris LaBelle scored a game-high 19 points and broke the school record for career free throws while leading the Centenary University men's basketball team to a 76-62 win over Clarks Summit University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Wednesday night. The Cyclones extended their current win streak to four straight games and maintained their perch atop the CSAC standings with the win.

LaBelle was a perfect 9-for-9 from the foul line in the contest, which gave him 165 made free throws for the season and 334 for his career. That broke Rob Urie's (2007-11) record of 332. LaBelle now holds the school record for single-game (18), single-season (165) and career (334) free throws at Centenary.

"We played a very solid defensive first half," said interim head coach Jason Geleski. "We were very aggressive in our full court man-to-man. We had four players in double digits scoring tonight and four guys that had seven or more rebounds."

"I thought Samad McMillan was a force inside and finished really well," added Geleski. "He's playering his best basketball of his career right now. Chris LaBelle had another great night. He does so many things well and he's hard to guard. I thought overall it was a great effort all around."

The Cyclones got off to a quick start in the contest as sophomore Tyler White's bucket at 17:04 gave the home team a 7-2 advantage.

Centenary extended its advantage to 18-5 on a three-pointer from graduate student Tom Weiler at 13:16.

A lay-up from freshman D'Angelo Blackmond pushed the Cyclones' lead to 24-6 with 11:41 to go until the half.

LaBelle made a pair from the charity stripe at 10:27 as Centenary took a 26-8 lead in the game.

Clarks Summit scored 10 of the next 12 points in the game and cut the Cyclone advantage to ten, 28-18.

A 7-2 run pushed the Centenary lead to 35-20 with 5:23 left in the half.

The two teams traded points over the final five minutes of the half as Centenary took a 43-26 lead at the half.

Centenary opened the second half on a 10-0 run and pushed its lead to 53-26 with 15:47 remaining in the contest. McMillan accounted for seven of the 10 points in that stretch including a pair of big dunks.

The Cyclones and Defenders continued to battle on both ends of the court as sophomore Harrison Lucibello converted a traditional three-point play at 11:59. That gave Centenary a 65-31 lead, the home team's largest of the game.

A lay-up from sophomore Bryce Falk at 9:31 gave Centenary a 67-40 lead.

The two sides battled down the stretch but Centenary was able to maintain a lead of at least 13 points for the remainder of the game.

LaBelle broke Urie's career free throws mark when he connected on a pair of shots at the 2:43 mark.

Centenary claimed the 76-62 win.

The Cyclones shot 44.1 percent from the field and went 19-for-25 from the foul line. Clarks Summit posted a 30.6 field goal percentage and shot 17-for-28 from the foul line. The Defenders won the rebounding battle, 50-46.

LaBelle finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists to lead the Cyclones. White contributed 12 points while McMillan and Blackmond each had 11 points. McMillan added seven rebounds while Blackmond had five boards. Sophomore Billy Veras also contributed seven rebounds and four assists.

Gideon Agbo led Clarks Summith with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

The Cyclones are back in action on Monday, Feb. 10 when they host the College of Saint Elizabeth at 7 p.m. With just four games remaining in the regular season, the Cyclones are closing in on a potential playoff spot. If Keystone loses to Rosemont on Saturday, the Cyclones clinch a spot without being active. Otherwise, a win on Monday would secure the playoff berth.
