YORK, PA – The York College men's basketball team closed out their season-high four game home stand with a grind-it-out 62-57 Capital Athletic Conference win over Southern Virginia. The Knights were masterful in controlling the tempo as the Spartan offense sputtered for most of the game. The win extends the Spartan win streak to a season-high tying six.

How It Happened:

• The Spartans got off to a good start as they lead 10-4 less than four minutes into the game. The Knights came into the game with the idea of controlling tempo and the plan worked after the first few minutes of the game. Darin Gordon gave York a 15-6 lead on a three with 13:47 left in the first. York then went over five minutes without a score as the Knights hit the Spartans with a 12-0 run that gave the Knights an 18-15 lead. Joe Polczynski tied the game at 18 with a three, snapping York's offensive drought. After a Quincy Jones bucket for the Knights, Gordon ripped the ball away from Ricky Stafford and threw down a vicious one handed slam to kickstart a 9-0 Spartan run to end the half.

The Spartans came out of the half and quickly pushed the lead to ten just 47 seconds into the half. That would be the largest lead of the game for York. The Knights came all the way back and tied the game at 44 on a Sam Armstrong three with 9:53 left in the half. That began a period of back and forth play with a pair of lead changes and three ties over the next five minutes.

• York took the lead for good with 4:54 left as Riley Dobraniecki hit a pair of free throws to put York up 53-51. Jared Wagner followed with a tough lay up in the paint as York led by four. The Knights cut the Spartan lead to two twice over the next two minutes but the Spartans made enough free throws to hold the Knights at bay and avoid a huge upset.
