Hartford, Conn. –Junior Colin Donovan (Westborough, Mass.) scored a game-high 18 points with seven assists to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 73-60 win over the Williams College Ephs in New England Small College Athletic Conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Oosting Gymnasium. The Bantams improve to 14-6 overall and 4- in the NESCAC with their fourth victory in a row, while the Ephs drop to 10-10 overall and 3-4 in the league). Trinity will host No. 22-ranked NESCAC rival Tufts on Friday at 7 p.m. in its next game, with Williams scheduled to welcome Yeshiva on Monday at 6 p.m.
The Bantams started positively with Donovan and senior co-captain Nick Seretta (Greenfield, Mass.) opening the scoring with three-pointers to start the half and provide the Bantams with a 6-2 lead in the first minute of play. Williams battled back to secure its first lead of the game at 14-12 on a traditional three-point play by first-year Cole Prowitt-Smith (Fairfield, Conn.) at the 12:15 mark.
The Bantams went back ahead for good at 22-20 on a drive by senior co-captain Kyle Padmore (Milton, Mass.) with seven minutes on the clock, closing the half on a 9-2 run that included consecutive layups by junior forward Donald Jorden (Tampa, Fla.) in the final two minutes. Padmore led all scorers with eight at the break, and the Bantams headed to the locker room up, 32-25.
Trinity came out firing in the second half, as an early three from Donovan, two corner long balls by senior guard Joe Bell (Manchester, N.H.), and a Padmore steal-and high-flying dunk vaulted the Bantams to a 47-31 lead at the 13:36 mark. Trinity maintained its double-digit advantage the rest of the way, as the Ephs managed just 10 field goals in 30 attempts in the second stanza.
Donovan's 18 points included three from long range, while Jorden finished with 16 points and eight boards, and Padmore added 15 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Seretta grabbed seven rebounds and senior guard Christian Porydzy (South Glastonbury, Conn.) made four steals for the Bantams.
Williams senior center Matt Karpowicz (Wellesley, Mass.) had 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while Prowett-Smith scored 13 points, going 9-for-9 from the foul line, and senior forward Henry Feinberg (San Francisco, Calif.) added 10 points. Trinity's defense held Williams to shooting percentages of 34.5 from the floor and 20.8 from downtown.
