More news about: MacMurray

JACKSONVILLE – To say they needed this win would be an understatement.

After three tough losses, the MacMurray College men's basketball game returned to its home court with a resounding 115-104 win over Westminster College. It marks the second straight win over the Blue Jays, dating back to last season.

Sophomore Camron Jamison ignited the Highlander offense, scoring the first eight points for MacMurray. Jamison finished with a team-high 24 points and six rebounds.

Both Logan Dorethy and Trevor Voss poured in 21 points for the hosts. Dorethy grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out a career-high seven assists while Voss blocked four shots.

Knotted at 20 with 12:29 before the half, the Blue Jays used back to back 3-pointers to take a 26-20 lead. The visitors would hold a lead until Jamison knocked down a trey with 6:01 on the clock before halftime. Jamison was 4-of-8 from deep.

A Westminster layup was answered by another triple, this one off the hand of Elijah Powell. The freshman finished with 12 points off the bench for MacMurray.

Once more, the Blue Jays had an answer, keeping the lead until late in the period. Drew Burwinkel hit a three off a feed from Dorethy to tie the game at 50 heading into the break. The senior captain finished with 15 points and six assists.

Trading buckets out of the break, MacMurray took the lead for good when Blake Drue found Dorethy, who converted a 3-point play. Drue tallied a game-high seven assists and hauled in six rebounds. Following Dorethy's free throw, the Highlanders held a 70-68 advantage with 13:42 on the clock.

Clinging to a lead no larger than six points, MacMurray used a 10-0 run to distance themselves late. A pair of baskets by Jamison and one each from Burwinkel, Voss and Ian Smith pushed the Highlanders ahead by 11. Smith gave the Highlanders a solid performance off the bench, scoring 11 points.

Despite the sharp-shooting by the Blue Jays from deep (46 percent), the Highlanders dominated the inside game. The hosts scored 78 points in the paint with an efficient 65.3 mark from the floor.

The contest featured 10 ties and nine lead changes.

MacMurray wraps up the first half of conference play with a 5-11 overall record, 3-6 in the SLIAC.

The Highlanders begin the second half of the conference slate on Saturday and Fontbonne. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
