Trinity Men's Basketball Defeats Pine Manor

Hartford, Conn. – Junior Colin Donovan (Westborough, Mass.) had 13 points, six rebounds, six assists, and three steals to lead the Trinity College Bantams to an 107-73 win over the visiting Pine Manor College Gators in men's basketball action this evening at Oosting Gymnasium.  Trinity improves to 11-6 and snaps a two-game losing skid, while the Gators fall to 4-15.  The Bantams visit New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rival Connecticut College on Saturday at 3 p.m. in their next game.  Pine Manor plays at Wesleyan on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Trinity led wire-to-wire, as senior co-captain Kyle Padmore took the ball off the opening tip and drove in for a layup plus a foul.  Junior center Sayvonn Houston (Brockton, Mass.) score for Pine Manor, but Padmore answered with another drive, made a steal, and fed classmate Christian Porydzy (South Glastonbury, Conn.) for a layup.  Bantam senior co-captain Nick Seretta (Greenfield, Mass.) added a three-pointer, and the home team led, 10-2, after 1:14 of play.

Trinity extended its lead to double digits for the first time at 23-12 on a trey by rookie guard Steven Lora (North Providence, R.I.) at the 14-minute mark.  The Bantams led by 17 at 367-19 on a drive by Donovan with 7:55 on the clock, but Houston made a pair of free throws for the Gators to make it, 44-34, with 3:34 left before halftime.  Trinity scored the next seven points and 14 of the last 16 before the break, leading, 58-36, thanks back-to-back- layups by senior guard Joe Bell (Manchester, N.H.) in the final minute.

Trinity took its largest lead of the game at 87-49 nine minutes into the second half on a layup by sophomore guard Tyler Mola (Leominster, Mass.), and cruised from there.  The Bantams shot 54.7 percent from the floor (41-75), 42.4 percent from long range (14-33), and 84.6 percent from the foul line (11-13).  Six Bantams finished in double figures in scoring, including Porydzy with 11 points, and Padmore, Seretta, Mola, and senior center Jadikas Brooks (Elmira, N.Y.) with 10 apiece.  Brooks also had a team-high seven rebounds and four blocks, while Padmore dished five assists.

Houston led all scorers with 20 points to go with five rebounds, while sophomore guard Jalen Bruce (Springfield, Mass.) added 18 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Ja'Marcus Bell grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.  The Gators missed nine of 22 free throws and committed 19 turnovers.
