Empire 8 Names Harry Ravitz '23 Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week

More news about: Elmira

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- For the second time this season, a member of the Elmira College men's basketball team has been recognized by the Empire 8 Conference, as Harry Ravitz '23 received E8 Rookie of the Week accolades on Monday afternoon.

Highlighted by a banner afternoon against Alfred on Saturday, Ravitz averaged 12.0 points, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.5 rebounds per game in a pair of conference matchups at Speidel Gymnasium. He started both games, marking the fourth and fifth starts of his rookie campaign.

The first-year point guard followed up a four-point showing on Friday night against Houghton with an explosive effort on Saturday against the Saxons, the defending Empire 8 champs. Ravitz set career highs in numerous categories, including minutes played (35), points (20), field goals (9), and steals (3). Additionally, his five dimes against Alfred were just one shy of tying his single-game season-high.

Ravitz joins classmate David Kruis '23 as the second Soaring Eagle to collect a weekly award from the Empire 8. Kruis was named the E8 Rookie of the Week on December 31, after a noteworthy effort at Wittenberg's Kiwanis Holiday Classic

The EC men are scheduled for a home tilt against the Continentals of Hamilton College on Tuesday, January 21. Tip-off for the non-conference contest is 7:00 p.m. inside Speidel Gymnasium.
