LOS ANGELESSydney Shipp was named the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after helping lead the Tigers to a pair of road wins over Chapman and Cal Lutheran.

Shipp, a first year guard from Houston, averaged three steals on the week, disrupting the opponents' offense and starting Oxy's transition game by deflecting passes and getting loose balls. He had 17 points, two steals and three rebounds in a 77-66 win at Chapman, and 20 points, four steals and three assists in a 77-54 win at Cal Lutheran.

Shipp is playing well at both ends of the court. He's scored in double figures in each of his last eight games and he's shooting 54 percent from the field for the season.

Oxy is currently 10-3 overall and 2-2 in SCIAC play.

The Tigers are back in action at home this week, playing La Verne on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Whittier on Saturday at 2 p.m.
