Shipp, Tigers Blitz CLU on Road

THPUSAND OAKSSydney Shipp provided the spark and Jacob Adler added the sharp-shooting as the Occidental men's basketball team ran away from Cal Lutheran 77-54 on Saturday for its second consecutive double-digit road win.

The Tigers had a big road victory, 77-66 at Chapman on Wednesday.

Shipp, a first year guard from Houston, pressured the ball up and down the court, deflected passes and disrupted the Kingsmen offense, leading to a surge of Oxy points in transition. Shipp had 20 points, four steals, three assists and shot 7 for 14 from the field and 3 for 5 from beyond the 3-point line.

Adler went 9 for 15 and 5 for 10 from three for a game-high 23 points. He also had five assists and five rebounds.

Ryan Kaneshiro ran the show very effectively for the Tigers at the point guard position, finishing with six points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Nine of his boards came at the defensive end of the court, igniting Oxy's transition game. 

The Tigers got 14 good minutes from Anthony Hollerich, who made his way into the rotation, going 4 for 5 from the field and 2 for 3 from the 3-points line, finishing with 11 points.

Kyle Dosa had nine points, Caleb Yellin-Flaherty had eight points, six rebounds, four assists and five steals, and Evan Dray grabbed six rebounds in 15 minutes.

Palmer Chaplin led the Kingsmen with 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists, and Cole Thomas chipped in 11 points.

After falling behind by seven points early in the first half, The Tigers went on a big run that lasted 12 minutes to go up 36-23 at half.

Oxy never led by less than nine points in the second half, holding off each of CLU's mini comeback attempts.

For the second game in a row, the Tigers shared the ball well as a team, dishing out 19 assists with 11 turnovers. Oxy had 20 assists and 14 turnovers against Chapman.

Season Impact: Oxy improves to 10-3 overall and 2-2 in SCIAC play.

CLU falls to 2-11 and 1-4.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action at home on Wednesday against La Verne at 7 p.m.
