HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Senior Chaise Johnson/Richmond scored a game-high 15 points off the bench to lead Hampden-Sydney College to a 74-56 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball home win past Emory & Henry College on Saturday afternoon at S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium. Sophomore Jack Wyatt/Richmond added his fourth double-double this season with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Tigers (8-6, 3-2 ODAC), who led 36-26 at halftime toward their seventh win in the last eight games. Jake Martin scored a game-high 15 points for the visiting Wasps (3-11, 0-5 ODAC).

"Great, hard-fought conference win tonight," said first-year head coach Caleb Kimbrough. "Everyone was engaged and into it. Have to protect home court in this league."

H-SC started slowly as E&H led 19-15 with 9:03 left in the opening half, aided by five early points from Martin. The Tigers, however, battled back with 11 unanswered points to lead 26-19 at 4:38, getting baskets from freshmen Ryan Clements/Conyers, Ga., Chase Turner/Virginia Beach and Miles Harris/Virginia Beach, a three-point field goal from Johnson, and two free throws from Clements. H-SC extended its run to 21-7 for a 36-26 advantage at the intermission. Wyatt had two baskets inside, while Johnson added a conventional three-point play and senior captain Kevin Quinn/Apex, N.C. closed the half with a three-pointer.

H-SC began the second half right where it left off, outscoring E&H 19-13 to open a 16-point lead at 55-39 with 12:26 remaining—getting points from seven different players, including three-pointers from Wyatt, Quinn and sophomore Cole Atwood/Mount Olive, N.C. The Wasps scored five unanswered points to get within 55-44 at 10:21, but that would be as close as they'd get. The Tigers used a quick 12-4 run, sparked by six points from Turner, to take their largest lead of the contest at 67-48 with 5:12 on the clock. Coach Kimbrough was able to empty his bench over the final minutes, as freshman A.J. Kent/Dalton, Ga. saw his first collegiate action and scored five late points, including a three-pointer.

Johnson led H-SC with his game-high 15 points off the bench, adding four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Wyatt finished with his fourth double-double this season of 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Tigers. Quinn also had 12 points, adding six rebounds, while Turner added 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Clements contributed eight points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals. H-SC shot 41% (29-70) from the field, including 29% (7-24) on three-pointers, and 69% (9-13) at the free throw line. The Tigers enjoyed a 30-13 advantage in bench points, 34-26 in points scored in the paint, and 15-9 in points off turnovers.

Martin led E&H with his 15 points. Micah Banks and Anthony Williams each finished with nine points for the Wasps. E&H shot 33% (19-58) from the field, including 14% (4-28) on three-pointers, and 78% (14-18) at the line.
