KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — In their first game back from winter break, the Keuka College Men's Basketball team lost at home to Alfred University 81-56.

Keuka College (1-7) was led by Nana Oteng (Queens, N.Y. / Martin Luther) with 12 points. Alex Medellin (Gilbert, Ariz. / Desert Ridge) was also in double figures with 11 points and Elijah Smalls (Rome, N.Y. / Rome Free Academy) added seven rebounds and four steals for the Wolves.

Alfred University 81 at Keuka College 56

In a slow start to the contest, Keuka led 3-0 three minutes into the game before Alfred University got on the board. The Saxons scored eight straight to take the lead over the Wolves. A three by Nana Oteng cut the deficit to one at 10-9 with 13 minutes left in the half, but the Saxons went on a run. The visitors scored 10 points in under three minutes as they pushed the lead to double-digits. Nolan Ivey (Upperville, Va. / Middleburg Academy) snapped the streak with a layup, but Alfred remained in control for the half. They led by as many as 24 in the frame and carried a 20-point lead into halftime.

On the opening possession of the second half, Alex Medellin hit is second three of the game for the Wolves, but the lead for the Saxons was too much. As a team, the Wolves improved from the floor, shooting 38.7% in the second half, but it was not enough as they fell to Alfred University 81-56 on Monday.

KC Notes:

  • Monday was the seventh straight loss for Keuka College against Alfred University. The Wolves are 7-13 all-time against the Saxons
  • Alfred got a big boost from their bench as they were +22 in bench scoring
  • Seven rebounds for Smalls was the most for the forward since the first game of the season. Smalls also recorded a new career high with four steals
  • Keuka College had a season-high 21 turnovers against the Saxons

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves return to North Eastern Athletic Conference play this weekend with a pair of games on the road. Keuka College will travel to Lancaster Bible College on Saturday and play at Gallaudet University on Sunday.
