DELHI, NY – Junior Pat Garey (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) and sophomore Bobby Connors (Rockville Centre, NY/Chaminade) combined for 41 points, 19 rebounds, five assists, and four steals Thursday night as Hartwick held off SUNY Delhi 76-68 at Floyd A. Maines Arena. The victory is the first for the Hawks in the New Year and ups their season mark to 7-3.
Garey finished the night with a double-double. He netted a game- and season-high 22 points and tied for a game-high and set a new career mark with 10 rebounds. Garey also dished out four assists and knocked down four three-pointers to give him 148 in his three-year career, good enough for ninth in the program record books.
Connors tallied 19 points with nine boards, three blocks, and three steals. Kyle Bradshaw (Tinton Falls, NJ/Manasquan) added 10 points and six rebounds to go along with three assists and two blocks. Austin Haskell (Kirkwood, NY/Susquehanna Valley) chipped in eight points and seven rebounds and Liam Drennan (Oyster Bay, NY/Chaminade) tied a season-high with nine points.
After a few early lead changes, Hartwick would take a 14-11 lead on the Hawks' third made three-pointer on their first four attempts of the half. Garey would put his team up and Hartwick would maintain its lead for the next 25 minutes.
Garey would open up a nine-point advantage for the Hawks (24-15) at the 10-minute mark following another trey. The Broncos narrowed the gap to three points over the next several minutes, but an 8-1 run capped by a Bradshaw triple generated a 10-point Hartwick edge, 40-30, with under four minutes left before halftime. Bradshaw ended the half on another shot from downtown and 'Wick led 47-38 at the intermission.
Connors led the Hawks with 14 points and seven boards in the first half. Garey added 11 and five as Hartwick shot 50% from the floor and 50% (8-of-16) from beyond the three-point arc.
'Wick kept its lead over seven points for the first five minutes of the second half. Delhi cut it to two at the 13:09 mark and again at 11:29 before a Darius Hines layup evened the game at 57-all at the midway point. Garey answered with his fourth three-pointer of the game 1:05 later and the Hawks led for the rest of the night.
The Hawks would force the Broncos into nine straight misses from the floor over nearly seven minutes as 'Wick built a nine-point cushion with under two minutes remaining. An old-fashioned three-point play followed by a trey from Delhi shaved the lead to five with 1:14 left but it was as close as the hosts would get as they would miss their next three shots. 'Wick did enough from the line down the stretch to close out the win.
Hartwick shot 44.3% (27-for-61) as a team in the contest. It made 36% (9-for-25) from three-point range. Delhi made 31.6% (24-for-76) from the floor and just 4-of-23 (17.4%) from three. The Broncos out-rebounded the Hawks by a 52-44 margin.

Hines led Delhi with 15 points. Mavenson Therneus had a double-double of 14 points and 10 boards. Justin Daoud (13) and Payton Dean (10) also were in double digits.

Hartwick (7-3) opens up Empire 8 Conference play on the road on Saturday, January 4 at Elmira College beginning at 2 p.m.
