JACKSON, Miss. -- The Covenant men's basketball team suffered through a cold-shooting afternoon as the Scots dropped a 61-41 decision at Millsaps on Tuesday inside the Hangar Dome in Jackson, Miss.

The loss was the second straight for Covenant (5-4), while Millsaps (9-3) has won six straight.

Covenant struggled to find the range from the field all day as the Scots connected on only 27.1 percent (13-of-48) for the game. Chris Barnette led Covenant with his 14 points and three assists, while Will Crumly and Daevon Platt had six points apiece. Crumly and Platt each collected six rebounds.

Despite poor shooting, Covenant's defense kept it in the game. Millsaps shot 38.9 percent (21-of-54) from the field and was limited to 3-of-18 from 3-point land.

Covenant trailed by 11 in the first half, but trimmed that deficit to four (23-19) after a Platt free throw with 2:39 left in the period. Millsaps entered the break with a 27-20 lead.

A Barnette jumper on the Scots' first possession of the second half brought Covenant to within 27-22, but Millsaps answered with an 11-2 scoring run over the next four minutes to gain a 38-24 lead with 15:36 left.

The Scots got within nine with under 10 minutes to play and had opportunities to slice that deficit further, but Covenant experienced three consecutive empty offensive possessions. A conventional three-point play from Millsaps' Anthony Hughes followed that sequence and gave the host Majors a 47-35 lead with 9:41 left.

Millsaps held a double-digit lead the rest of the contest.

Hughes was the only Major in double-figure scoring as he tallied 15 points and five rebounds. Kalvin Spikes, Kaleb Jenkins, and Dillon Young all had eight points for Millsaps. The Majors out-rebounded Covenant, 48-33, and went 16-of-23 at the foul line.
