MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University men's basketball team opened the game on 30-6 run, powering the Rangers to a 76-65 victory over Wilkes University in a non-conference action Sunday afternoon in Baldwin Gym.

Senior guard Riley Collins posted an outstanding all-around performance for the Rangers, who won their fifth game in a row and became just the third team in school history to open 7-1. Offensively, he poured in 29 points, knocked down five 3-pointers, shot 8-for-8 at the foul line, and dished out four assists. He also grabbed eight rebounds - one shy of his career-high - and swiped seven steals, tying the scoring record set by Luke Glass versus Scranton on Feb. 6, 2013.

Junior forward Lybrant Robinson contributed 13 points and six rebounds for Drew while senior guard Cole Hanntz notched 12 points. Freshman forward Howard McBurnie, Jr. gathered 10 rebounds while junior forward Malachi Walker, Jr. grabbed nine boards and blocked four shots.

Rob Pecorelli scored 18 points to lead Wilkes (6-3), last year's MAC Freedom Conference runner-up, while Jake Robel contributed 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Collins netted 14 of his points in the decisive opening run, starting with a 3-pointer just seven seconds into the contest. McBurnie, Robinson, and Walker went on to score before Hanntz drilled a 3-pointer, making it 16-2 less than five minutes into the game.

The Rangers would continue to sizzle from beyond the arc, as Hanntz knocked down another triple less than a minute later. Collins capped the Rangers early scoring spree by nailing a trio of 3's in just over two minutes, with his last trifecta giving his team its 30-6 advantage with 12:07 on the clock.

The Colonels would climb back into it, however, using a 13-2 run late in the half to pull to within 40-30 with 3:01 showing. But the Rangers had a big response, closing the stanza on a 9-2 spurt, capped by a 3-pointer from sophomore guard Drew Gallagher that made it 49-32 at the break.

Wilkes narrowed the gap to 13 with 13:57 left in the game and again with 7:06 to go. The visitors inched to within 69-59 after a Pecorelli 3-pointer with 6:03 showing, but that's as close as they would get. Collins snapped the 7-0 Colonel run when he dropped in a lay-up with 5:50 left, then hit a pair of free throws with 4:41 to go, making it 73-59. Wilkes was unable to closer than 11 down the stretch.

The Rangers take 13 days off before returning to action on Dec. 29, when they take on 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins in the first round of the Steven Holiday Tournament.
