Fast start helps St. Thomas men push win streak to six

A 17-0 opening lead over the first 5:55 helped power No. 6-ranked St. Thomas to a 90-66 home men's basketball victory over Gustavus in MIAC play Saturday at Schoenecker Arena.

The Toms (7-1 overall, 3-0 MIAC) ran their win streak to six as they had only six turnovers, shot 52 percent from the field, and collected 41 bench points. Six different players made at least one trey for the Purple, who raced to 48-18 halftime lead.

Anders Nelson had 13 points, Thomas Madison and Burt Hedstrom each scored 12 points, and freshman Will Engels scored 10.
