ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth used a 10-2 scoring run late in the second half Tuesday to break open a close game for a 71-66 non-conference men's basketball victory over SUNY Poly on the Mike Daley Court at the Kidera Gymnasium.

The Golden Flyers had four players score in double figures, led by a career-high 20 points from sophomore Zach Stenglein, to improve to 5-2 overall. The Wildcats dropped to 2-4.

Tied at 59-59 with three minutes to go, Nazareth got a key three-point basket by Stenglein with 2:41 left to secure the lead for good. After SUNY Poly scored at the other end, Nazareth scored the next seven points to slowly pull away. Kevin Underwood converted an old-fashioned three-point play with 2:09 left, then Stenglein drove to the hoop and scored with 1:37 left. Stenglein completed the scoring run with a pair of free throws with :29 left. Cody Green added two more free throws with :10 left.

Green nailed three three-pointers early in the game and had 11 of his 15 points in the first half when Nazareth led by as many as 10 points, 28-18, with 7:12 left. The Wildcats, however, used a late scoring run, aided by a three-point basket by Josh Gregory, to close to within one point by halftime, 35-34.

Nazareth opened the second half with a four-minute scoring drought as SUNY Poly scored 10 straight points to go up 44-35. Nazareth gradually worked its way back and regained the lead at 51-49 on a basket by Stenglein with 10 minutes left. The lead changed hands a few more times before the Golden Flyers' late scoring run.

Stenglein's final stat line included two three-pointers, a 4-for-5 effort at the foul line, four rebounds, three steals and just two turnovers. Underwood and Green each finished with 15 points and Stephen Gabel scored 13. Jonathan Park added eight points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. Underwood also grabbed 10 rebounds and went 5-for-5 from the foul line.

SUNY Poly enjoyed a 47-36 rebounding advantage with 13 offensive boards, but the Wildcats were plagued by a 3-for-10 effort at the foul line.

The Golden Flyers are off until Dec. 14 when they are back home for another non-conference game against Alfred State at 6 p.m.
