BIDDEFORD, Maine --The University of New England finished on a 19-5 run to pull away for a 95-79 men's basketball victory against Maine Maritime Academy on Monday evening (Dec. 2) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

It was a season-high in points for the Nor'easters (5-3), who gained the lead for good at 72-71 with 8:47 remaining, marking the game's 18th lead-change. The margin was still just 76-74 before the hosts separated from the Mariners (2-2), largely behind eight points from Siddiq Canty in the last 5:28.

UNE had six players reach double figures in scoring. Canty notched all of his 17 following halftime, and added six rebounds along with four steals. Alex Kravchuk also registered 17 points, and Drake Gavintossed in 14 points while collecting six boards. Jackson McCoy contributed 12 points, including 10 in the 2nd period. Avery DeBrito, Ray Evans, and Ric Castillo each scored eight before the break and ended with 11, 10, and eight points, respectively.

McCoy, DeBrito, and Castillo all shared the game-high of eight rebounds, as the Nor'easters posted a commanding 49-33 edge on the glass. DeBrito also dished out eight assists and picked up three steals.

UNE made 63 percent of its two-point field goals in the contest, while only knocking down 28 percent from deep (9-of-32). Maine Maritime was close to the opposite, hitting 67 percent from long distance (12-of-18) but just 38 percent inside the arc. The visitors were also out-scored by seven at the line with a 9-for-21 performance.

DeMerrill Levy drained 5-of-6 three-pointers for the Mariners and topped all players with 23 points, while recording six rebounds and three steals. Nicholas DePatsy generated 17 of his 20 points in the 1st half. Kimani Anderson and Malachi Reincke both secured seven caroms. 

The Nor'easters led by as many as five in the middle of the opening frame, but a 9-3 spurt put MMA up at intermission, 44-41. Maine Maritime took its largest cushion at 52-45 early in the 2nd stanza.
