York Hands Gwynedd Mercy First Loss Of The Season

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy suffered their first loss of the season on Tuesday night, falling 88-67 to York at The Griffin Complex.

Rich Dunham recorded 16 points to lead four players in double figures but it was the Spartans who hit 10 three-pointers in the second half, helped to open up a one-point score at the half.

Somah Slewion added 15 points, with Austin Harriott finishing with 12 and Jeff Seigafuse totaling 10. After shooting over 57% in the first half, the Griffins were just 7-of-20 in the second stanza.

In that first half that featured 10 lead changes and six ties, neither team led by more than five points. GMercyU hit six of their nine triples in the first 20 minutes to keep toe-to-toe with York.

The Spartans' David Giuliani hit a bucket in the paint to beat the buzzer giving York a 39-38 edge at the break.

Slewion opened the second half a trey for a two-point lead, but York used an 11-0 spurt to up the lead to nine after a three-pointer form Colin Rimel. With nine minutes to play, the second of two three's from Zach Novick gave the Spartans a double-digit lead over Gwynedd the rest of the way.

Jared Wagner led York with 21 points, while Novick hit four three-pointers for 12 points. Giuliani finished with 19 while Logan Collins added 11.

Harriott also kicked in five boards, five assists, and a blocked shot.

Gwynedd Mercy returns to action on Monday, December 2nd as they play at Goucher.
