GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA – The York College men's basketball squad shot a blistering 59.3% from the field en route to handing Gwynedd Mercy their first loss of the year, 88-67, in non-conference action on Tuesday night at the Griffin Complex in Gwynedd Valley, PA.

In addition to scorching from the floor, York shot 50% from three and 83.3% from the free throw line.

How It Happened:

• The Spartans came out at seized an early lead only to have the Griffins use an 11-4 run to take a 15-13 lead with 12:44 left in the opening half. The Spartans responded with a 10-3 run to take a 23-18 advantage four minutes later.

• The Spartans' five-point advantage would be the largest lead over the final seven minutes of the half as the teams went back and forth. The Griffins took the lead on a Myles Bunyon jumper with 58 seconds left in the half. David Giuliani gave York the halftime lead as he hit a lay-up just before the buzzer to give York a 39-38 advantage. The first half featured six ties and ten lead changes in the back and forth stanza.

• The Griffins got a Semah Slewion three pointer to start the half as they took their final lead of the game at 41-39. York answered with an 11-0 run that turned the game in their favor. Sophomore Colin Rimel capped the run with a big three pointer as York led 50-41 with 13:57 left in the game.

• The Spartans continued to roll as Zach Novick pushed the York advantage to 14 with a three pointer with 8:57 remaining. The Spartan lead hit 20 with a Jared Wagner three pointer with 4:28 left in the game. York capped the win with three pointers from Darin Gordon and Joe Polczynski to pick up their fourth 20-point win of the year.

The Spartans return home for a Sunday afternoon contest as they will host Franklin & Marshall College at 3:00 pm. The game is a make-up from the season opener that was postponed due to a student protest at Mayser Center on November 8.
