BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team picked up its second straight win on Sunday evening, beating LaGrange 90-85 to cap the annual Black Tie Classic at Bill Battle Coliseum.

Birmingham-Southern (2-2, 0-0 SAA) was led by 22-point performances by both Ben Spence (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) and Paul Fitzgerald (Fort Valley, Ga./Lamar CC) while as a team the Panthers shot 60 percent from the field and from three.

Aside from giving up the first point of the game on a free throw, BSC led the entire game against LaGrange, jumping out to a lead as large as 13 early in the second half. The visitors made it a closer contest towards the end, but 'Southern stalled out LaGrange's attempted comeback, hitting some big three-pointers and sinking 25-of-29 free throws to down the red-and-white Panthers.

Spence and Fitzgerald were joined by Christian Stewart (Irondale, Ala./Shades Valley HS) and Conor O'Sullivan (Tower Cork, Ireland/Cork Institute of Technology) in the double-digit point category. Stewart finished his night with 17 points and nine rebounds while O'Sullivan had 10 points and a team-high four assists.

Spence and Fitzgerald each had seven rebounds, as well, for BSC.

Birmingham-Southern hits the road for its next game against Covenant on Tuesday, Nov. 19. The Panthers will look to avenge their previous 71-66 loss to the Scots from the season-opener. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
